Belsteads School
Welcome to Belsteads! We are an independent special school set on a rural site in the village of Little Waltham which caters for pupils between 10 to 16 years of age, who have an education, health and care plan for social, emotional and mental health difficulties.
Our Environment
The school team strive to help pupils who have disengaged from school and learning and to develop strategies to manage their behaviour in a friendly and supportive learning environment. With small classes and high staff to pupil ratios in each classroom, we are able to provide a high level of support both in and out of the classroom. We provide ability, rather than age appropriate learning tasks so that pupils can experience success in learning and begin to engage and enjoy learning in a school environment.
We welcome visits to the school and hope to see you soon. Please contact me at the school if you would like to arrange a visit or have any questions about what we do.
belonging
We want our pupils to feel a sense of belonging at the school. As a special school, one of the most exciting aspects of our work is that we are able to support the pupils to take the time to think about their behaviour and endeavour to find the best way forward for them to communicate with us and the people in their lives. The best interests of the child is at the heart of everything we do.
The values of kindness, compassion & hope and Connectedness underpin the ethos of the school.
We actively promote the values of a growth mindset here at The Belsteads School. A growth mindset teaches our students to develop resilience and self esteem; to take pride in their own sucess and the successes of others. It encourages our students to not give up and realise that failing at something is the first step to learning.

Aims, ethos and testimonials
Our aims and ethos underpin every aspect of school life at The Belsteads School.
We strive to become the ‘best school in the universe’ and our nurturing family environment makes us exceptional. We believe that children reach their true potential when they feel safe, secure and valued as part of a supportive community.
Belsteads school is amazing ! My son has been attending for only 3 weeks and his confidence has grown ! The staff are all so welcoming, caring and patient, and go above and beyond to encourage all students to achieve their best. My son has a smile on his face everyday !
… she can be herself and you and your staff welcome the children for who they are and what they are. You never hold a grudge with them and everyday is a new day, you don’t just teach them you guide them and encourage them to do the best that they can be. You encourage them to try new things and when they have a bad day or a meltdown you are there to show them that life is hard and they will have problems but you are providing them with the life skills that they need to be in the world…
The Belsteads is by far the best school I have come across, all the staff are so supportive and understanding and they all work in a child-focused way. Everything they do is for the best of the children and they offer so many lovely opportunities, they have helped my child with 1-1 singing lessons to encourage him into school and have worked with me in getting him back into education after having 2 years out of education. This could have been a real challenge with many other schools but it has been so easy and pleasurable with The Belsteds. I am so grateful to the school as a whole, especially Erica for her ongoing support and always being on the end of the phone when needed.
Thank you to everyone that forms this amazing team.
